Perplexed Sugar

      Every year when Oscar season rolls around the usual fanfare comes alive. Award premieres are taken place with directors and crew, interviews flood movie sites and DVD screeners are sent out to every academy member. And when the DVD screeners reach the houses of those members, one type of movie always gets thrown into the back of the pile if you're not either a fan of animation or actually apart of the animation industry. The animated movies. It's the one movie they don't want to touch. They hand it off to their kids while they're off watching REAL CINEMA.  Like the animated movie wasn't made by hard working artists but magical fairies in a Disney factory. Because everyone knows every animated movie ever made came from Disney. Everyone knows these animated movies aren't made by real directors anyway. Because if that was the case Hayao Miyazaki would of gotten a nomination in his 20 plus career for Best Director. Or maybe Brad Bird. Or Pete Docter or Genn...

              Long ago in a year far far away...existed a probably much better story than The Force Awakens. Not that J.J.'s movie was terrible. But there's always that part of a movie fan that studies development hell and always wonders: What if? What if David Fincher did Steve Jobs? What if Darren Aronofsky ruined Batman? What if George Miller succeeded in making Justice League: Mortal? Why was there ever a Justice League movie with the word Mortal in it? These are the questions that run through my mind constantly, keeping me awake at night along with my night light. So for the sake of my mental health, lets examine the Star Wars story that never was and come up with a theory that is probably a 100 percent wrong.     By now we've all seen Wonder Woman at the box office and our eyes have adjusted to the brightness on display instead of the usual DC 'your grandma just died' color palette'. The movie was exciting, bright, hopeful and everything the Superman movie should of been. Man Of Steel was supposed to kick off DC's universe with a bang. One studio exec said it might be the "biggest movie ever". But then it came and critics panned it and a lot of people hated it. It was dark and colorless and moody. That sounds like another DC character I know. Look I get it. Zack Snyder and co. were telling a different story with this Superman. One commenter online said it best when he said this is "a Superman post 9/11".  I am aware of the comics Injustice and the dark side of Superman and him becoming this evil God figure which was mirrored in Batman v. It's going to happen whether we like it or not. To be honest it already kind of feels like we're in a movie, where the president is a reality TV star and the twist is a leaker named Reality Winner. Not even Charlie Kaufman could make this shit up. Life is truly stranger than fiction.  Something this big is going to have a dramatic ending. Something this big is going to need some dramatic actors. So here's my take on who should play who.  Not based on looks but because I know they can pull it off. But looks don't hurt either.
